Which one?

Unitree Go2

Choose the Go2 for home, teaching or research on a budget: public prices for every consumer version, and 4D LiDAR plus an HD camera on all of them. For your own code you need the EDU version.

Boston Dynamics Spot

Choose Spot for industrial inspection: IP54, −20 to 55 °C, up to 14 kg payload and a mature SDK with arm and fleet software. It is sold only to companies, with configured systems quoted at US$175,000 to 300,000.

Unitree Go2: Why it’s on our list

  • Entry price US$1,600, with public prices for every consumer version.
  • 4D LiDAR and an HD camera on every version.
  • The EDU version brings an SDK and optional Orin compute for research.

Boston Dynamics Spot: Why it’s on our list

  • Industrial grade: IP54 and −20 to 55 °C.
  • Mature ecosystem: SDK and API, Spot Arm, Orbit fleet software. Spot 5.2 (September 2026) adds AI visual inspection and gas sensing.
  • Sold in the EU through Boston Dynamics and partners since 2020.

Unitree Go2: What bothers us

  • No SDK on Air and Pro; full development only with EDU (price on request).
  • Air lacks 4G/GPS and voice functions; warranty 6 months (Pro and X: 12).
  • Security researchers disclosed root-level exploits (September 2025, February 2026). Per the researchers, firmware V1.1.13 fixes two of them, but likely not on EDU. Ask which firmware is installed before buying.

  • No public price; configured systems are quoted at US$175,000–300,000.
  • About 90 minutes of average runtime per battery.

Short answers

How much cheaper is the Go2 than Spot?

A lot. The Go2 costs from $1,600 in Unitree’s official store, without tax, duties and shipping; in Europe that is from about €1,420, converted from US dollars. Spot has no public list price; Boston Dynamics quoted configured systems at US$175,000 to 300,000 (March 2026).

Can I buy Spot as a private person?

No. Boston Dynamics and its partners sell Spot to companies and institutions, in the EU since 2020, without a public checkout. The Go2 Air, Pro and X can be ordered by anyone in Unitree’s official shop.

Which one carries more?

Spot: up to 14 kg, about twice as much as the Go2 with about 7 to 8 kg. Spot is also more than twice as heavy, 33.8 kg against about 15 kg.

Which one runs longer?

It depends on the version. Spot runs about 90 minutes per battery and recharges in about 60 minutes. The Go2 runs about 1 to 2 hours, the EDU version about 2 to 4 hours.

Can I write my own software for them?

For Spot, yes: Boston Dynamics offers an SDK and API, plus the Spot Arm and the Orbit fleet software. On the Go2, only the EDU version has the full SDK; the X has partial access, the Air and Pro none.
