Which one?

Unitree G1

Choose the G1 if you need more sensors and runtime: a depth camera, 3D LiDAR, 4 microphones and about 2 hours per quick-release battery. The EDU version offers up to 43 degrees of freedom with optional three-finger hands.

Unitree R1

Choose the R1 if you want Unitree’s lowest-priced full-body humanoid: 1.23 m and about 27 to 29 kg. It has 20 or 26 degrees of freedom, and the EDU version can be expanded to 40.

Unitree G1: Why it’s on our list

  • One of the few full-size humanoids with a public price that you can order today.
  • The EDU version opens the SDK, up to 43 degrees of freedom and dexterous hands: a research platform.
  • Folds to 69 cm and uses a quick-release battery.

Unitree R1: Why it’s on our list

  • Lowest-priced full-body humanoid from Unitree, the maker of the Go2 and G1
  • Official EU distribution with EU-version units via RobotShop EU
  • Clear upgrade path from the app-driven Air to the programmable EDU (up to 40 DoF)

Unitree G1: What bothers us

  • No SDK on G1 and G1 Pro. Development needs the EDU version, priced on request.
  • Short runtime (about 2 hours) and low arm payload (2–3 kg).
  • Security researchers disclosed root-level exploits (September 2025, August 2026). Ask about the current firmware before buying.

Unitree R1: What bothers us

  • About 1 h per battery; Basic units ship with dummy (non-gripping) hands
  • Only the EDU version supports secondary development (SDK)
  • Not a household helper; EU price (€10,164 incl. VAT) is far above the USD list price
  • Other Unitree models (Go2, G1, H1, B2) had a root-level Bluetooth exploit disclosed in September 2025; ask about R1 firmware security before buying.

What is the main difference?

Size and sensors. The G1 is 1.32 m tall, weighs about 35 kg and sees with a depth camera and 3D LiDAR, plus 4 microphones. The R1 is smaller and lighter: 1.23 m and about 27 to 29 kg. It has a monocular camera on the Air and a binocular one on the R1 and EDU. The G1 also folds to 0.69 m.

Which one runs longer on a charge?

The G1, about twice as long: around 2 hours on its 9,000 mAh quick-release battery. The R1 runs about 1 hour per battery.

Which is better for research?

On paper, the G1. Its EDU version opens the SDK and offers up to 43 degrees of freedom; its price is on request. Dex3-1 three-finger hands with force control and an NVIDIA Jetson Orin are optional. The R1 also needs the EDU version for the SDK: 26 degrees of freedom, expandable to 40, and you can order it in Unitree’s store.

Can I rent a Unitree G1 or R1?

The G1, yes, for events: Antarum passes your request on to rental firms in Germany, and the G1 comes with an operator. One firm from Germany also comes to Austria and the rest of Europe, with travel costs extra. In Switzerland, a rental partner on site has the G1. In Dubai and the rest of the UAE, a local rental partner has the G1. In the US, a rental company that works nationwide has it, from $3,000 per robot per event day, with personnel and other applicable costs quoted separately. You book and pay directly with them. For the R1, we have no rental offer.
