Why it’s in

  • Built for robot learning: whole-body control, a leader arm for teleoperation and learning from demonstration, with an open SDK and simulation models.
  • Pre-ordered by MIT, UC Berkeley, the University of Washington and Georgia Tech, according to The Robot Report (May 2025).
  • A maker with backing: Samsung Electronics has been Rainbow Robotics’ largest shareholder since December 2024.

What bothers us

  • No current public price; at the 2024 launch the research version cost US$80,000 excl. VAT.
  • No European dealer for the RB-Y1, so orders, service and spare parts go through Korea or the US office.
  • A lab machine: 131–170 kg on wheels and 3 kg per arm. Deliveries were planned from October 2024; we have not found independent long-term reports yet.
